Yoga

Thresh Hold offers the physical form of Yoga known as Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is a sequencing of poses designed to bring health and calm to the practitioner. Yoga is a perfect addition to training for increased rock climbing skills. Because yoga increases strength, endurance, and flexibility, the climber will gain a greater ability to control movement and maintain longer holds. Learning to breathe with movement in yoga aids in reminding the stressed mind to relax and breathe. For a climber, this is essential when faced with a killer crux. Yoga teaches the climber the ability to link hard moves with balance and endurance by staying in the moment with the breath.

Hatha yoga has the potential of bringing a climber the ability to link hard moves with balance and endurance. Hatha yoga has also inspired many of other forms of yoga offered at Thresh Hold.

yoga-copy3

Introduced by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, this style of hatha yoga focuses on synchronizing breath with physical postures. Ashtanga yoga generally holds poses longer than vinyasa flow. Many power or core yoga styles have origin in Ashtanga yoga. It improves circulation, muscular strength (especially core muscle strength) and calms the mind.

Anusara

Founded by John Friend in 1997 Anusara literally means “moving with grace”. It differes from other foms in it’s heart opening emphysis. Similar to cinyasa flow, anusara moves with the breath, but incorperates more heart opening poses such as back bends and physical alignment.

Vinyassa Flow

Vinyassa flow classes are just what the name indicates; sequences of poses held for a short period of time that flow into one another following teh breath. This style enhances balance, muscular strength, flexibility and relaxation. Common sequences include many vaiations of sun salutations.
